Happy belated New Year, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah. Whatever floats your holiday boat, I hope it was a humdinger. I’ve been a bit behind lately, mainly living life. You know life, right? That thing that happens 24 hours each day. Sometimes we get so caught up in doing stuff we ignore the simplest of things: being alive. Being Life. Being.

Honestly, I wish I had something pithy, amazing, thought provoking or exciting to share with you. But alas, I don’t. For some inexplicable reason, the new year has come and I’m thrilled to simply be. Almost as if that is simply enough. Actually, it is more than enough.

I will leave you with this: what is something you can not do for a few minutes so that you can take a moment to sit and be? Let’s make this the least productive year we’ve ever had! A year for sitting and not doing. A year for enjoying life.

It’s either awakening or lazy hedonism. Not sure which yet. But so far, it’s a good year. Be well!

  1. Sue says:

Is that like the question, “I wonder what my next thought will be?”

    haha

I choose to be as aware as I can as often as I can, of everything. This, of course, involves some inaction on my part.

Happy New Year to you too, Tom.
2008 was a year like that for me.(laughs) We’ll see what today brings.

    Happy New Year Tom.
Maybe, just maybe, we might bump into one another again while in the flow.

    Awareness:
Effortlessly enjoy being in the flow and seeing where it will take you. Be thankful for all the experiences you encounter and let them flow on.

    Lazy hedonism:
Hanging on to all your experiences so you think you can experience them over and over and create an identity with them.

  4. Happy New Year, Tom! And remember: Trust in Christ Alone and Be Saved…

  5. Eric says:

Year, shmear; it’s always now, so happy new now to you and all Tom. (laughs). As for me, I hope I find a job so there will be something to not do!

    Namaste.

“what is something you can not do for a few minutes so that you can take a moment to sit and be?”

Excellent reminder, but why only for a few minutes? It was a wonderful day when I realized that all the efforting, methods, understanding, believing, conceptualizing, spirituality, doing, doing, doing was taking me in the wrong direction. I’m essentially a lazy person, so it was a releasing relief to realize that my role in awakening is simply to allow it, be comfortable with emptiness, and be aware.

I’m enjoying your site. Thanks for the wisdom.

Hi Tom. Happy New Year to you too! “For some inexplicable reason, the new year has come and I’m thrilled to simply be. Almost as if that is simply enough.” Sounds like a great place to be…

    Maybe you’ve reached enlightenment?

Would we still blog if we were enlightened? :-)

  8. Tom – I love you.

I am so sick of everyone who writes all this stuff about goals and to do lists and being what you should be.

I am tired of asking myself every night, “Now, what did I do that was productive today?”

This is my favorite sentence -

“Let’s make this the least productive year we’ve ever had! A year for sitting and not doing. A year for enjoying life.”

Time is slipping by not to be who we are in this moment.

@Everyone Thanks for all the Happy New Year wishes. It has been an amazing 14 days so far. And yes, I entirely agree: why take only a few minutes to STOP and BE? How about just chucking the whole damn thing and just be what you already are? Or better, how about EMBRACING the whole damn thing and being what you already are? Truth isn’t going any where. You already are awake. Just open your eyes and know it. Simple, huh? Whoa, have I gotten all mystical with the new year? :-D

    Love you all……
